Google Only Listing URLs

but not page content

Came across a situation where my newish site is widgets.com with hundreds of pages on it.

Many of the pages appear as usual when I search for "widgets.com"

However there are several which just have the URL & a "similar pages" link.

There is no snippet of text displayed nor is there any "cached" link.

Any clues?

This is because GoogleBot has found the URL from links but not fetched it yet.

If the URLs are linked from very low PR pages (or fairly low PR pages if they have "?" characters in the URLs), then Googlebot might not fetch them and give them full listings. Alternatively, the links may be /robots.txt excluded.

Usually though, it's just a sign that Googlebot hasn't had time to crawl them yet so there's a very good chance that they'll appear in the future.

This has happened to me when running a frames page. I am hoping that a "meta description" will cure it.

My site is not newish - it has been around for years and has been indexed by google for years. It comes up number one for my keyword phrase (which is moderately competitive). Yet, for the last couple of months, it too only has the url and similar pages link. No title, no snippet, nothing. My thought was that perhaps my site was momentarily down when G crawled it, and therefore it was depending upon links to my site. Now, I'm not complaining that I am number one certainly, but it makes wonder how i can be in that position, if G is only going by links to my site. And if I am number 1 because G knows more about the site than just backlinks to it, then why not show my title and a snippet for description? Just strange....
