Linking Question

So I hooked up some reciprocal links with a site a few weeks back.

I noticed over the last few days, that this site changes all their links to PHP redirects in the second half of the day. So, in the morning the link would be normal html, like [mysite.com,...] but in the second half of the day, it will change to [theirsite.com...]

I thought they might be doing this conserve their PR .. if Googlebot visits every night let's say, and all of the links are these redirects, will they be benefiting at my expense, or does it matter? I'm just thinking that if Google doesn't transfer some or all of the PR through a redirect link, then they might be receiving major benefits.

Is this a violation of any Google rules, or just crafty programming on their part?

No.

I cannot make anything out of it :( Maybe someone else can.

Doesn't happen that way.
