I have 2 sites that sell the exact same product. I do not link between the sites at all. I write new pages for each site and do not duplicate content except for product details sent from the manufacturer. I have a couple of common links from other pages but for the most part the sites are completley independent. I was just making sure I wouldn't have a problem , and if someone thought I might, I was looking for ways to address.

Reason for having 2 sites: Advertising on the radio is easier with one site than the other. I do want to be in the search engines as well, but not at a price to my other site which ranks well.

I look forward to your help and advice.

If you really want to use one site for radio ads and one for search engines, why not ban (robots.txt) search engines from the one used for radio ads?

However, if you content is not duplicated and there is no interlinking, I doubt this would be a problem.

It's just I hate to spend all the time building this nice looking informative site and not take advantage of the search engines if you know what I mean. I just want to be honest and not create spam in any way that might jepordize my other site.

From the Description of your sites I feel you should not face any problems. Some of the things to look in such cases are :- (these are my viewpoints only)

1) Is the site design different?

2) Is the link structure different?

3) Is the Url naming conventions different?

4) Do these sites interlink?

5) Do they reside on same Server with similar or same(shared) IP?

I have seen sites having Exact duplicate content get away scott free if they address some or all of the above issues. HTH :)

slk230,

<Reason for having 2 sites: Advertising on the radio is easier with one site than the other.>

I assume the reason it's easier to advertise one site on the radio is because the domain name is easier to announce on the radio. Instead of taking the time to maintain two sites, why not have one domain redirect to the other?

Thanks Mil2k will address that.

I did want the second domain for the ease of remebering on the radio. I do want a seperate store as I want to offer specials on this store I will not offer on my main store and vice versa.

It would be nice not to write all this extra content though....

I forgot how much work I put into the other site....WHEW!

Just a friendly heads up:

Don't forget about your competitors. If they see both your sites, and if there's any duplicated content, you can bet they'll call the spam police on your b*tt faster than you can say Rodney King.

It seems more honest to put a robots.txt on the branded site and just use it for advertising, as you initially stated, than to "Take Advantage" of it, as you subsequently stated. If you're going to make a second site, make absolutely sure that it's clean.

My wife emailed me yesterday and said she was researching a subject on Google, and found a web site with different names and different graphics, but the exact same content- both sites sitting in the top ten.

It annoyed the heck out of my wife because she felt misled by Google and cheated out of here time by the duplicate site. So I filed a spam report out of principle.
