Hi!

I just recently did a website (about a month ago), and did NOT do any search engine optimization, or meta tags. I did however put the company name on the title bar of every webpage. And, the company name is embedded in the copy of just about every page.

I told my client it would take "awhile" for her site to get indexed. To tell the truth, I'm not really sure how long it takes for Google to index a new site. Does anybody know?

Anyway, my client is checking Google everyday, and today she came up, but it was on somebody else's website!

How can that be? Why would her company name listed one time on somebody elses website get a hit before her own website?

It can come up on someone else's website because theirs is in the index. No telling how long it takes, it depends on whether or not it's picked up with fresh crawl inclusion.

Better tell her it can take up to three months to stay on the safe side and protect yourself, and go about getting her some quality links from pages that get fresh crawled.

Plus, the index page may get in quickly, but how much longer it'll take for the rest of the site is a whole different story.

Hi newnewbie1

To help kick start the listing in Google get incoming links to the web site including listings in Yahoo and Open Directory.

My experience with curent new listings is, as Marcia says about 2 -3 months, but that can change.

Sticky me the url if you like

As others I would also emphasize on getting links. More the better. HTH :)

You did submit it to google correct?

i know that might seem like a rather stupid question to ask, but it is an important one.

[google.com...]

Other than that, get a few links in to your site. If the site that is linking to you is already indexed then chances are you will be as well. Sometimes you have to wait an index cycle for this to come up, but it should work just as well.

As far as a time frame, it just depends on a ton of stuff. For instance when exactly you submited your site in relation to the google dance. And sites that have more links in get indexed a lot faster than sites which don't.

I'd think of submiting to a few other search engines as well, here is my quick list of the main ones to submit to, i am sure there are some more indepth ones out there though: [seo-world.com...]

best of luck with it, just give it a little time and you should be in after you submit your site and get a link or two at least.
