Odd time of day for a heavy GoogleBot session....

I am getting hit on average of once per second this afternoon, since it is the middle of the day my load is peaking and slowing down my site. Anyone else seeing this?

In the past the bot was always nice enough to hit once ever 15 or 30 seconds, and only did heavy hits in the middle of the night...

I think it depends on how well your server responds and how many pages you have.

How often will Googlebot access my web pages?

For most sites, Googlebot should not access your site more than once every few seconds on average. Since network delays are involved it is possible over short periods the rate will appear to be slightly higher.
