Our site sells blue green widgets. We have 9 main pages - Home, Products, Contact, Shipping, Warranty, Products, Return Policy, etc and about 300 total pages.

Our navigation is setup so all 300 pages have links back to these main 9 pages and from our main product/catalog page you can link to about 100 product pages, and from these hundred out to the remaining. I guess we would have a distributed PR.

My question is, for these 9 main pages, today they are named: companyname/links.htm, companyname/contract.htm,
companyname/products.htm etc.

Would it help to rename these 9 to: companyname/blue_green_widget_links.com
companyname/blue_green_widgets_products.com
etc?
Thanks

I would be careful about optimizing your "links" or "about" pages. Do you really want them to rank before your other pages? Don't compete with your own good landing pages that probabaly convert a whole lot better than your "shipping" page.

Instead, you might think about excluding those pages in your robots.txt file or hiding them with javascript so that they are not crawled and don't siphon PR from your other pages.

Thanks for the reply... good point about sucking PR from the higher pages..
