Hi,

My first question is about keywords on google. If I have text in my page like oldboat and some one types in the words old boat, will google see it?

Also, will google ban someone for submiting to much? I got WPG and submited 1 diffrent site for 30 days then stoped for 4 months. now 9 months later nothing seems to get indexed in goole even tho i only submit 1 site a month. Ive even changed isps. I havent tried anything illegal to get banned i dont belive. what might cause this?

Thanks for the help,
Jay Lyons :)

Welcome to the board, Jay.

No, if you have oldboat on your page, it won't count as old boat.

Google does not like WPG, using it is actually in violation of their TOS. But first thing to look at is whether there are any inbound links to your site. You can't rank for anything without Page Rank, and you can't have any PR without links in. Google finds sites through links, submission isn't even necessary.

Another thing - have you checked whether the syntax of your robots.txt is correct?

If you don't know what to put in your robots.txt, just remove it. That way, all spiders will be allowed to index your site.

You should submit to Yahoo, and to dmoz.org, and find some other popular sites to link to you. Once you have several good links, Google should start indexing you. Of course, if you have a commercial or adult site, you'll have to pay for Yahoo, and getting listed in DMOZ takes forever plus 3 months.

This site has a nice robots.txt file. Check it out - it blocks a lot of nuisance bots. mcavic is right though, if you are unsure about what it means it is best to not have one at all so that all bots can find you.

Hi Jay and welcome :)

WebmasterWorld is a huge resource and you can find many things using the link pmac suggested. You can also use the site search (see top of this page next to "control panel") or use google to search WebmasterWorld using the following in the search box without the quotes "robots.txt site:webmasterworld.com".

here's a tutorial [searchengineworld.com] for robots.txt files. Since robots.txt is used to disallow robots, usually from specific areas of a particular website, an example of someone else's robots.txt file might not be that useful, but there are examples in the tutorial.
