javascript trick

I've been studying the number one spot on google in my keywords to see what he is doing and I've found a trick that you all might want to know. Since google rates pages that get linked to, but don't link out the highest, all of his outgoing links simply uses window.open() function which is ignored by google since it is javascript. Now his main page has many inbound links, but absolutely no outgoing links. This is only for his main page though, the others have actual links.
Another thing he did was make an empty javascript tag with a comment inside that contained all of his keywords.... I have no idea why he did this... anyone got an idea?

Is that supposed to work?
So, each outgoing link actually substracts "GooglePoints" from your PR?
Hmmm....

Well, I wasnt necesarily talking about PR, even tho I know thats what considers the link thing, my site actually has the same PR as theirs, 5 times more content, more traffic, and exactly the same relivency, but they are at the top and we are at like #9. I am just trying to figure out why and thats one thign I notice about their site that I thought some experts could ellaborate on.

From what i've been reading and testing, the use of js in a page is more a trouble than a help to get PR, unless a wonderful work is made with the <noscript> tags.
Even so, a page that uses js links only to retain PR should be punnished by google: this is over-optimization! But they will learn the consequences: what will show the browser's status bar when the user goes over a link? something like:

javascript: openWindow("/home.htm")

This will surely intimidate some users. The status bar text can also be maipulated by js, but this will take a great amount of resources (mainly time) that no user wants to spend.
Remember that users want simplicity and, over all, control. They want to control what happen in their computers. So give them the control by letting them know what they are doing.
Don't worry: the evil kills the evil. Any attempt of cheating in SEO (or everywhere else) will become a two-bladed knife. ;)

Why I am against this 'trick':

[webmasterworld.com...]

No more comments on that from me...

What I would like to know though, is in the cases where I actually don't see anything wrong with it as it pertains to affiliate programs and sites using JavaScript and tracking URLs for the stores they sell items for that don't happen to link back to them.

Also, if I'm using JS to block bots from visiting pages in a certain area of my site that are highly similar to other pages of my site, am I to assume that I should replace these with a no index, no follow, and that will prevent my getting penalized for duplicate content? Due to my linking structure, I need 2 versions of each of a set of pages that detail the use of my site...
