increasing pr value of site

I'm languishing at pr4 with lots of information rich stuff etc.I can get a pr7 to link with me, will this automatically raise my pr & by how much?

It will depend on how many other links are on the PR7 page linking to you. I would expect(hope?) for a 5 or 6.

Of course a link from a PR7 should help, but by how much would be impossible to say and to quantify as there are plenty of other factors involved.

Also note; It is widely assumed that Page Rank is actually held and calculated at a fractional level (to how many decimal places I don't think anybody outside of the 'plex knows), and therefore whilst you may well get a boost from the PR7 link, you may still only show as a PR4.0 to the outside world.

its a government site with thousands of links pointing to the index page of the gov site. but not to me

Whether it boosts your page rank or not - it is still a very good link to get. .gov links are gold IMHO - I always crack open a beer when I manage to get one.

It should defently help you in the cause of PageRank, it will probably help you more in the terms of traffic from the link, and a advise to you is not to focus too much on the Toolbar Rank that is showing for your site, it can easily be wrong, and it's not the green bar that gives you traffic ;)
