Google looses a Major UK Partner

Overture signs Freeserve for algo search

Overture/FAST has signed away freeserve from google, a major UK partner. This has never happened before to google, loosing a partner for algo search. Comments?

Apparently the formal announcement of this chage will be made sometime soon, "next week" from an article dated the 3rd of this month, so press release should be out on the 10th ish.

I consider this news pretty big. It starts with just one loss. Kind of reminds me when Overture lost their first customer, Earthlink, to google adwords.

That's why it appears on the frontpage ;) (the previous topic MMT started)

But yes it's a hit for Google, and a win for Fast, hopefully a tricle of more traffic will come through fast listings now.

In terms of impact on Google - this development will be irrelevant as Freeserve displays pure Overture listings as far as the eye can see

Google also lost the BBC as a search partner in the UK.

You are absolutely correct.

I was heavily involved in the PPC industry when OV lost Earthlink. Although Earthlink was only a small partner, many realized that this was the start of something- OV had competetion for contracts. Shortly after they lost AOL...
