i am rewriting some dinamic urls with mod_rewrite because one of my sites has changed. as i understand setting a permanent redirection to the new url is the way googlebot transfers the odl url PR to the new one and deletes the old url, but do you know if this works for msnbot or even for inktomi?

one more question: is the a msn forum similar to this?

MSNBOT is too new for us to have any information about it. A 301 redirect is the correct thing to do, and from what I see, Inktomi will follow the redirect, and eventually find the new URLs. But it might not remove the old ones, so you might have duplicate pages indexed for a long time.
