It has been my experience that site maps that are nothing but pure links tend to end up with a PR0.
I have no idea why, but with no links during the beginning of Esmerelda, a client's Site Map went to a PR5- same as index page.
Has never fluctuated since...and I've installed the beta toolbar. Still PR5.
All other internal pages are PR4. Any ideas on what is up with that?

Have you seen Google's Site Map:
Site Map [google.com]
I try to make the site map have some useful text...

Every single link is an internal link, so perhaps this has something to do with it.
Site-maps are a good tool for helping the bots find the darkest deepest recceses of your site.
It's a nice page, but I don't want Google to take it over the index page like they did last 3 months.
Why the heck would it show a PR = to index with no links? Odd...

Of course you cannot know the exact PR of a page since the toolbar only shows an integral value.
Assuming the toolbar truncates (rather than rounds):
Index page "real" PR 4.3, sitemap page "real" PR 3.6, you see toolbar PR of 4 and 3, respectively, and say all is normal.
Index page "real" PR 4.9, sitemap page "real" PR 4.2, you see toolbar PR of 4 for both and wonder what the hell is going on.
I've determined that my site maps get a lot of visitors, many from within the site, so I consider the site map design to be second most important to the home page. A page full of nothing but links will probably add to the dismay of a visitor who is lost or is having trouble finding what they are looking for.
And to keep with the thread, non of my site maps have a prO, but none of my site maps are only a list of links.
