Variations in the Filename

Different variations of the file name make a difference?

I was curious about this, I know its good to include your keywords in your filename.. but does it make a difference if they vary in case or separator _ or - ?

For example..

./blue_widgets.html
OR
./blue-widgets.html
Does it matter at all which you use?

What about capitalizations..

blue_widgets.html
Blue_Widgets.html?

Just curious about some of the little details... thanks!

Hi

Here you can find some answers: [webmasterworld.com...]

Sometimes ist's better to search this forum for related topics than start new one...

LukasS has answered the hyphens vs underscore question.

Google is not case sensitive, from The Basics of Google Search [google.com]:

Capitalization

Google searches are NOT case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you type them, will be understood as lower case. For example, searches for "george washington", "George Washington", and "gEoRgE wAsHiNgToN" will all return the same results.

Just to amuse you with more information about the hyphen versus underscore debate - the (censored) URL below came up about 8th in the search for an innocuous musical two-word term....

xxxxxxxxx.com/999999/AAAAA___BBBBB_-_CCCCCCCCCCCC_FOR_DDD-EEEEEEEE_FFFFFF__a
nd__GGGG_FFFFFF.html

where the upper and lower case letters represent upper and lower case characters in the filename, and the hyphens and underscores are exactly as shown.

And yes, it got onto page one of about 45,000 results...

Which must mean something!
Happy Independence Day for all those who are celebrating getting away from us Brits (we don't celebrate you going, by the way!)

floridadesigns, welcome to webmasterworld.

i think the influence of the file name is so minimal, that 1 or 2 more links to your site makes that irrelevant.
