I researched two of my major competition sites. Google link check shows my site homepage has 1280 links in total, while most of them (>95%)are my own pages. My competition A has totally 544 links, with 94 out site links. My comopetition B has totally 214 links, with 151 out site links.

My competition A outranks me for key phrase "WordA WordB", since most its out site links have an anchor text of "WordA WordB". But my site outranks it for key phrase "WordB WordA" since most of my out site links address my site as "WordB WordA".

My competition B outtanks me for key phrase "WordA WordC" sicne most its out site links have an anchor text of "WordA WordC".

My i conclude that Out site links outvalue In Site links? Shall i ask my link partners to change my link to "WordB WordA" to "WordA WordB"?

Hope i make myself clear! Many thanks in advance.

Hello newsphinx and welcome to webmasterworld [webmasterworld.com]

If I understood correctly you are talking about inbound links: ie links from other website to yours.

Yes, in google the text of these link has an important value in how the page is ranked: check this thread [webmasterworld.com] for more info on the other important elements of a page.

Regarding whether or not to ask your link partner to change your text link - it's up to you. But consider carefully what you choose because you may well be outranked by both competitors for your kwd a, b, and c if you make a mistake.

Good luck.

Why not just go looking for new links and keep you existing links as they are?

Chris.

Tip: look at who links to your competitors sites but doesn't link to yours.

Leo: Yes, that's what i mean. You assure my presumption.
Chris: That's definitely what i am planning to do.
Thanks, you guys.

Don't confuse the "value of the outgoing link text" with the simple "keyword density on the page".
