Any advice for a novice?

I recent created this ecommerce website, which mainly consists of images and little text. I have added about 20 keywords in the metatag. Because of lack of text in the content, the keywords aren't oftenly seen in the body of each page. Will this greatly affect the visibility of the website?
I have tested the site with the "Brett's Spider Simulator". I found out that some of the links in the inner pages aren't crawled by the spiders until i clicked "spider this link with current settings". Those are dynamic pages and they all have less than 2 variables.

What else can I do to improve my ranking? I apologize that I have so many questions but I am totally new to search engine optimization. I appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

I also want to add one more thing. Since it is a new page, no other site of any importance have any links to my current website.

Will getting my website on dmoz.org or yahoo! help my PR standing? What else can I do to get my website listed on other websites?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, Raymond!

Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone [webmasterworld.com] is essential reading to get started. After reading it you will have lots of other questions, come back and ask them!

Sites with little text do badly with the search engines, which need text to search. Keywords that are in META tags but do not occur in the text are given even less weight than those which are found in the text. If adding more text is not an option some paid listings may be needed.

There is much to take in if you are new to SEO. I suggest you scan through the glossary and click on anything which you know you know nothing about.

Many words may help evoke questions in your mind which directly relate to what you are trying to accomplish. Then, do a site search. Use concise language when performing your search.

You'll learn a lot very quickly if you just start reading! One thing for sure, there are no short cuts to SEO and its a very fluid occupation so you will have to stay on your toes! ;)

I'd recommend having a couple of hobby sites on the go so you can test out your newfound SEO theories on them whilst using the more sane and respected tactics on the big site!

Also, the most important thing...patience...lots of it. Don't be surprised if it takes a year to get a good ranking that is relatively stable in google.

Avoid messy html, javascript (link externally to scripts), optimise your pages individually so you have some kind of damage limitation if one set of keywords goes AWOL, but do keep a keyword theme running through the site so the pages seem relevant to each other.

A comprehensive navigation system, avoiding javascript links if possible.

And all that stuff in the FAQs :)
