The curse of the fresh tags

My own fresh tags ruin my rankings!

Whenever I get a fresh date my ranking for my two key search terms goes from positions 2 and 3 to pages 4 and 5. I haven’t made any changes to the site and once the date goes away I go right back up. Any advice or do I just have to sit and wait each time I get a fresh date? Is there any way to avoid getting a fresh date? I certainly don't want to discourage the googlebot but I've come to hate seeing the freshbot on my site!

Is this causing bandwidth concerns for anyone or just lack of bandwidth concerns?

I have been observing the strange behaviour with fresh tags, but there is also another twist. Using keyphrase (a) lists my site WITHOUT the fresh tag - the position is pre-Dominic; using keyphrase (b) my site is listed WITH the fresh tag - the position has slipped from page 1 to page 2.I have yet to see my site returned consistently with or without fresh tags for all key phrases.

This behaviour happens on all DCs.

Continuing from what I asked earlier - but no reply :)
Why would google keep changing my TItle/description back to one that is either incorrect or over a month old (i'm not sure which!) instead of the latest one?

i.e. Does this only happen if your site is down when google visits?

John22.

This is normal for google and is nothing new.

I have seen this happen of several sites but it sorts itself out after a few updates.

After a few *Updates* - hope you don't mean google dances! ekk - that would mean months...
As I currently have non-existent serps if it sticks with the old title/description, because i stupidly updated my website with an unrelated website index page!
(only for 1/2 day (over a month ago) - i was hoping that google didn't visit - with my luck it looks like it did!).

Whenever I get the fresh tag, my rankings fall two or three pages for major phrases. When the fresh tag goes away, my rankings go back to page one...for the same phrase. Must be some kind of glitch, because my site is very fresh.

I'm seeing the same type of thing. I've also noticed some sites that never have fresh tags that are doing great.

Who wants to volunteer to ban freshbot for a few days and see what happens?

We have gotten no freshie love since the update.
All the cached pages are old.
From the sound of some, this may be a good thing.
However, I would like to see if our rankings change if we get refreshed.
