Sorry, all, if this is a redundant question, but my search didn't yield much...

For some reason, the dmoz category does not appear on my Google listing, but appears for all other relevant sites. Is there a trick to getting the category to show up? I'm definitely listed in the category, very high up in the PR order in fact. The only thing I can think of is that in the category listing, dmoz still shows an old www.rooturl.com/widget page. I cleaned up my directories a while ago, so my site hasn't had a /widget page in a long time(if you click on it, it does a server redirect to my homepage). I thought things were done by root url, so I'm hoping it's not the /widget that's affecting me (since I requested dmoz to get rid of the /widget about a billion times, but no luck, so I've given up). Thanks for any thoughts!

Not sure here, but I think Google web search results only show the DMOZ category for a search for "your company" if your index page is listed in DMOZ.

So the www.rooturl.com/widget page might not be good enough...

Also, if your index page is listed several times in DMOZ it tends to show the highest Pageranked category (not necessarily the most "themed").

If I understand you correctly, your widget page listing in ODP points to the www.rooturl.com/widget URL.

Since your widget page no longer exists at the www.rooturl.com/widget URL, I think your widget page (at its new URL) will not show the directory listing in the google serps. As far as I know, that won't occur until the listing is updated to the correct URL in ODP.

About the general issue of Google categories not showing below pages in the serps: this is something that others on this board - including myself - have been seeing since Dominic. It may have something to do with which ODP dump Google is currently using. Or might have something to do with the "missing backlinks" issue that has been discussed extensively in this forum.

I'm not seeing this problem with all ODP listings, only some.

Beth

Just as clarification, I was referring to the DMOZ listing on top of the Serps when typing in "domainname" as search query.

Well the ODP end of the RDF is working fine and has been chucking out a new one almost every week since February. there have been only a couple of small gaps when the process had to be reset due to problems, or interrupted in order to do something else.

The latest RDF is only a week or so old, sitting waiting for Google to go and get it.

The ODP is making some major changes to the entire hardware system in the next week. There may, or may not, be another RDF in the next day or two, before the editing and site submission sides go offline until the end of the month.

Here's a variation on the issue.

My site is in the directory, just one entry. It's at the top of its small category.

If however I search for the site name, or words in the description in the directory, it does not come up.

Also when I visit my site, the Category button in the toolbar is greyed out.

But it's there, with the correct URL and it is ranked.

I don't think it's a penalty, or a new algo tweak or the end of civilisation as we know it. I just thought you might like to know about it as it indicates that everything is not quite settled yet.
