I've finally given in and joined google groups to get two (IIS server) urls showing up in the google index removed, having had to remove the actual files as I don't have global.asa access (nor do I want to learn asp so I can write a script to tell your spider to stop indexing this server address and redirecting it to the DN address!).
Have also sent emails to to webmasters of domains turning up in a google search with links to the offending IIS url requesting them to update links to the DN urls, so the next time google spider indexes them, hopefully it won't follow the wrong url.
This exercise resulted in the following questions:
Q1. A couple of the urls in the search return domain unreachable or page url changed in real web, but still in google cache. Will these be also washed out of the google index so the temporay address also disappears from google's db and no longer gets indexed?
Q2. How come it's so convoluted to get this done on google, when all I needed to do was send a nice email to FAST when they had the same url start turning up in their db, and they removed the offending url within 24 hours of my email to them?
Cheers
JP
