Cache of Google Directory

More Upto Date than Actual Directory

Have been discussing a few points regarding the Google Directory with a member here (via sticky) but just noticed that the Cache of the Google Directory is actually more upto date than the actual Google Directory!

This just seems a bit strange to me - anyone who has a new site (last few months) can probably experience this - goto the area of the google directory where you are listed in Dmoz and view the cache of that page and you may be listed.

Wonder why Google would do this - or if the indexing of the Google Directory is actually done elsewhere on a newer rdf dump

May depend on how new your site is - works for me, my site was listed in Feb/March and can not be found in the directory but does show on the cached page.

Here's a good one. Google has my site listed in the search results with a directory category that the site is in for DMOZ and used to be in for Google.

However, when you go that directory in Google my site is no longer there. It is still in DMOZ.

So DMOZ says the site is there in its directory, Google's search says the site is there in Google's Directory, but Google's directory does not have the site.

OK, folks. Now my site is back in the Directory. I do not know why is was out, or why it is back in, but that is the way of the Google world.
