Inbound vs. outbound links

PR 7 created with 5 own websites...

I have found a website owner which has created a very bis link directory. This automated directory has very much sub categories to create lots of websites. Additional this system creates 1 additional site per reciprocal link. This site is always the same....! The idea behind this system is to create as much .html websites as possible within his own website. Than this guy puts links from his own websites at the bottom of every of this automatically created sites.
AND BOOM google counts more than 3500 links from his own websites!
This guy has 95% links from his own sites and receives a PR of 7! Is that fair? Everybody could do that....

The very fact that so many webmasters are over-ambitious in regards to Google linking mechanisms, also means that there are ample competitors that will cry wolf towards the Google spam team. (Personally I first enjoy emailing the owner of such companies with a doom scenario)

What you describe looks like something highly detectable though.

If it is highly artificial it is most probably short term.

Nothing wrong with enjoying one-night stands a friend of mine told me.

I don't see the problem here.

If I understand correctly the guy has built a business directory and acquired power to it by building reciprical links. Then just links his directory to some sites he owns.

So what?

This guy has gone to a lot of effort to create a useful business directory...he is now reaping some rewards.

He has a directory, and has given each section its own page.
He has asked for a reciprocal link, because it is his directory
He has then linked to his own sites.

Exactly what is WRONG with that? People REALLY NEED TO stop obsessing with PR and instead with SERPs and your conversion rates.

Give me a PR2 site making $10,000 a month over a PR7 site making $2,000 any day

Maybe I misunderstood the set-up, but it looked to me as setting up thousands of seperate one page websites - not a directory.

Agreed on PR...we went from a PR6 to a 3 overnight and our orders doubled.....looks like we may be a 6/7 this update I hope our orders stay up.

Regarding directories...isn't this what Yahoo now do in a loose guise?

Well then lets even say its a directory that creates a new page for each link added.

Each link might warrant its own page - reviews, more information, etc.

I mean ... isnt this what hotscripts is doing with their scripts? Each script gets its own /Detailed/xxxxx.html page.
