Reverse Order of Words in a Domain

Hi all,

Just wondered if this would do well or not:

Lets say for example, I want to get a nice listing on "apple pie" - would this domain be of any use: pie-apple.com?

Does google still read "pie-apple" in the domain as being relevant to apple pie?

I think it depends on what you're trying to achieve with the domain.

If it's for Google's "keyword in domain" boost then I wouldn't worry; Google doesn't put significant weight on the domain.

If it's to encourage other Webmasters to use your favourite words when they link to you, eg. "large pie from pie-apple.com" then yes it would help. (In that example, the domain encouraged the webmaster to use apple in the link text.) Still, it's not something I'd worry about too much when choosing a domain.

Yes, because people will link to you using [Apple Pie], if your site really is about [Apple Pie], and is really good information on [Apple Pie]. And of course, the unquoted query "Apple Pie" will also return pages which feature "Pie Apple", however, the phrase "Apple Pie" would rank better than "Pie Apple" if every other factor is the same (which it likely won't be, so don't fret about it). The main reason to use relevant keywords in the domain-name is that some will link to you using [www.pie-apple.com], thus you start to have Google associate the words "apple" and "pie" with your domain.
