Top Ranking with PR0 and No Back Links!?

Weird SERPs. Can you explain?

I just read a news story that the fastest selling fad product in history is the Iraqi playing cards set. The article went on to say that Email Marketing was the driver behind the rapid sales.

For a test I searched in Google and was surprised to see top ranking sites had zero PR and zero backlinks.

Is this "zero display" a hiccup in the system, or is there something else going on?

It’s not really that hard I've got a new site that’s ranking 3rd with 135,000 results showing that’s a week old with zero PR, saying that it’ll probably be gone next week, ho hum
