Multiple domains same IP point to 1 site

I have just completed a search here for "multiple domain names one ip" I found 27 different threads and went through them all. Here is my concern. I have a total of (3) different domains that point to my main domain all on the same IP address. Here is what has happen www.maindomain.com has had a couple of pages indexed into Google. www.domain1.com points to www.maindomain.com has the entire site indexed in Google. I do not want to receive any penalties from Google but I also do not want to loose the traffic that is coming from www.domain1.com. There is no content on www.domain1.com. What should I do?

as long as you apply a redirect 301 then google should get the message that www.maindomain.com is the real target domain and eventually it should spider that domain exclusively. if you have any external links pointing to the other domains then email their webmaster and ask them to change the link to www.maindomain.com.

All of my backlinks point to www.maindomain.com.

I was using to Registar that I purchased the domains through to do the redirect but the were showing up as different IP's. So I changed the domains to the DNS that www.maindomain.com is hosted on. They are running a Coldfusion site I asked if it was a 301 redirect and they stated that it was a redirect. But never actually said a "301 redirect".

301 redirects are a good way to go. However, if you only worry is getting a penaulty then you can stop now. As long as the pages are EXACTLY the same and on the same ip address then you will not have a problem. I have several sites setup like this and they all work well without 301 redirects.

Thanks Chris. Any ideas how long before Google will index all of www.maindomain.com? www.domain1.com has been completely indexed for about (3) months now.
