Duplicate content

Need some help devising an online publishing strategy

Hi Everyone

We are online publishers and some of our pages/ sites have been hit with the 'whitebar' PR0 penalty.

I think this may be due to the fact that google thinks we are duplicating content or doing some other bad thing.

The problem for us (as publishers) is as follows:

a) other people legitimately publish (on the web) our articles and press releases
b) some sites just nick our content
c) we want to publish our our articles on the web too
d) we also want to make our articles available as press releases to the media (on the web)

So, at one level, google might say our content is being duplicated. However, at another level, (ie when we have different audiences of a) surfers and b) media) - we want to present the same info in a different way?

So, here's where we need some help.

Can any one point us to a SEO expert with experience of this kind of problem who can help us devise a content distribution strategy that makes sense for our business and works for Google and other search engines too?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Cheers
Neil

Welcome to WebmasterWorld Neil_Lewis,

Pagerank display is in state of everflux at the moment (and during the last weeks) - do not depend/rely on it for any indication.

PR0 can mean a penalty - it can also just mean a low Pagerank.

Do not worry too much about distributed content and duplication problems resolving to penalties.

Check Google news (the tab in google.com - not this forum ;)) and search for something topical. Many sites just reproduce distributed content.

You might want to do some WebmasterWorld site searching on the above topics as well.
