Hello,

My apologies if this topic has been previously covered. I couldn't find a thread. My question is, will one of the 2 examples recieve a higher rank by Google (where keyword1 and keyword2 are my primary keywords and dummyword is a non-targeted word). If so, roughly how much weight difference is there? Also, what importance does the www prefix play?

form 1: keyword1.keyword2-dummyword.com
form 2: keyword1-kwyword2-dummyword.com

Thanks,
Mark

Heya:

If looking for widgets, I would think Google would give "www.widgets.com" some credence, however, if you have "widgets.other-domain.com" then probably no boost in rankings at all.

The reason for this will be obvious--to get a good second-level domain you have to pay, and you have to be lucky nobody else has it...to get a good third-level domain you simply need to alter your own DNS records.

I always find it humourous to find others with a.mydomain.com, b.mydomain.com, etc. that believe that this will help their rankings. Truth be know, they are probably diminishing the link structure ranking boost they would otherwise get from keeping their pages under one branded domain.
