A site I link swapped with several months ago had a PR of 5, was listed in the DMOZ/Google directory, and a decent number of backlinks. The webmaster seemed proactive about aquiring new links as well, so it seemed like a good idea.
Today I noticed that he was no longer listed on the directory page and thought that was odd, so I visited his site only to find that it had a grey bar. I then went back to Google and typed in his domain and it wasn't found -- so obviously he's been dropped. I checked and he's still in DMOZ, just not Google, so he didn't lose his link that way.
I guess my question is, should I immediately drop my link to him, and request that he remove the link to me? Or am I overreacting, as he's not been PR0'd, so he's probably not 'banned' just 'dropped'. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
AL.
Do not reciprocate linking for reciprocating sake alone.
We get decent traffic from the site (even still). However, approximately 30% of our income comes from Google and if we were ever to get greyed or PR0'd it would cause very serious damage; infinitely more than just dropping the link swap with the greyed site. I guess I'm just not sure how bad being greyed is, and how that in turn can affect us :\
