Any shortcut to find SERP ranking?

(other than paging through one-by-one)

Is there a way to find out at what position a site ranks in the Google SERPS for a given keyword, short of rummaging through successively lower pages until I find it? Alas, this has become an issue, since my site dropped off the first page of the SERPs for some major keywords to somewhere beyond my level of patience for finding it manually (i.e. beyond the 10th page).

Thanks.

Google API (for Google anyway).

[google.com...] register an account.

... and if you can't develop your own...

[stebsoft.com...]

A "down and dirty" solution for all that rummaging:

1. Set your Google preferences for 100 results per page
2. use the domain name for "Find in Page"

You can check the first 1,000 results in quick time.

>>1. Set your Google preferences for 100 results per page

I have noticed some slight shifts in positions when preferences are set to 100 results in the past. Especially for pages in directory listings.

It's not such hard work since I never check past page 3 with preferences set to default 10 results per page.

Thanks folks,

It worked too well, I'm afraid. Checking 100 links at a time I went quickly through the 700 for our main keyword and found out we're no longer listed. I guess I'll hang tight until this crazy May update uncertainty passes.

WPG can usually be be used sparingly without a problem.

MacGuru,
The indented results occur when there is more than one result per domain on the same page. This naturally happens more often when there are more results per page, cramming all the indented results to the top, and thus changing the serps.

But it still voliates the terms set by google -
IMHO

Use [google.com...]

With your Google preferences for 100 results per page.

Its my 150th post <:-P

But it still voliates the terms set by google

In a recent discussion with Matt Cutts (Google Software Engineer) FirstPlace Software (WPG) requested a dedicated API from Google for their ranking software and Google was willing -- but they didn't want to pay a dime for it.

They could have had Google's blessing on use of their software > and tacked on a few bucks per download to pay for it but I guess they really don't care if their software users are breaching Google's TOS.

Easy solution (this is what I do)

Keep a record of your monthly rankings for various terms, and when the results change, skip to the page you were on last update. If you're not there, just check the page before or after.

You could also see at download sites.
