Does Googlebot Visit banned sites?

Does googlebot stop visiting your site if you have been blocked or banned from Google?

I am working on a banned site, it is still visited even by fresh bot. After I took over the maintenance of the site I have cleaned it up, hopefully it will be reincluded sometime in the near future. But yes, the googlebots never stopped coming.

I have a site that went to grey PR toolbar about 7 months ago because it was banned for some reason. It was not visited once by Googlebot until just last month, at which point it went to PR0.

That leads me to believe that the PR0 sites are still visited but the banned sites (grey PR) are not.

This a guess but it would seem logical that directories (and possibly pages) can be individually banned. The reason I say this is that a page banned on, say, a Geocities user page, does not (I assume) cause the whole of the Geocities site to be banned.

However, Google may operate double-standards.

How do i know if sites are banned or penalized by google?

Does gray bar in PR mean a colored gray bar or a bar without color? (on my pc background color is gray, so maybe this is what you mean)

There's a difference between a /subdirectory/ on a domain site and a member site at Geocities. At Geocities a member's site is part of the physical domain, but is a separate logical domain. There's a big difference between the two.

Just out of curiosity, is this specific to Geocities or does your reply apply to all domains that operate user directories? For instance, if I were to create user directories on my commercial site for members of my family (not something I'm planning to do) would Google make a distinction and ban just a naughty user directory or might it ban the whole domain.
