Additional countries returned in serps

I have noticed a significant addition of other than US domains in the serps for a number of the terms I monitor... particularly numerous .uk and .de sites while conducting searches in the US.

These foreign country sites have not been in these serps previously. I haven’t read anything about this as part of this recent update; can anyone shed light on this?

I don't know the reasoning behind this but I have notice this for many of the seach terms that I watch.

Not only have the UK site reach higher position but many of them are using spam to reach these spots.

I also hope someone has some insight on this.
