Hi,

I read various posts debating orphan pages and how they can or cannot affect the ranking, and even cause serious penalties.

But what if those pages are #include files?

If penalty for orphan pages is a true or at least a reasonable statement, should one really move hundreds of pages to a directory excluded from crawling (and checking/changing lines of code inside tons of pages...)?

The above scenario is quite non-sense IMHO, but I'd like to listen some other opinions, since many of those #include pages have very similar content and some outbound links as well...

Thanks

As far as I know, a penalty for orphaned pages does't exist. Pages with no incoming links are simply removed from Google's index (not crawled). However, I wouldn't call this a penalty.

The theory that pages with no incoming links being indexed by google due to using the toolbar isn't true.

Also, the was a discussion [webmasterworld.com] just a day ago about this topic (which you could have find easily).
