Google feedback report was implemented, but new update overrode it

A month or so ago, I did a search on some keywords and visited the sites that came up at the top of the SERP. I found that the top 2 sites did not match the keywords at all. What had happened is that in the past they were related to those keywords, but over time the site ownership had changed / or the site was hacked and the content now was something completely different. It was some sort of message board.

So I filled out a feedback form at the bottom of the SERP and sent it off. To my (pleasant) surprise, in about 2 days, those sites were no longer in the SERP.

A few days ago I noticed that the site in question were back, right at the top of the SERP, as if nothing had happened!

What I think may have happened is that when I gave my feedback, the algo. may have been manually tweeked to weed out these sites. But when the last update occured, those sites came back in at the top because of the links pointing to them from sites which had noticed that the site had changed hands. i.e. many sites still link to these domain names, even though there is nothing in them to match the keywords.

I was wondering if there was anything I should/could do about this? Shall I re-send a feedback form after every update?

Thanks.

I've never been in this situation myself, but perhaps if you contact the people who are linking to this site, just to let them know what the new content is.

I know that if I was linking to a site and someone pointed out it had changed I would remove the link.

Now, why didn't I ever think of that? That is such an obvious thing to do! In fact that has happened to me at times, with people writing in to tell me that my links were invalid.

Thanks!

The reason you are seeing the sites back has to do with the fact that Google in the process of moving to a new system of crawling and updating their database. During that transition period they have been relying on a database from Feb/March.

If the sites you mentioned were in the datbase during that time period, they will be back in the database until the current transition is complete.

No one has a clue as to when that might be, but I would hope things should look better by mid June.

If you want to read up on the gory details, I would sauggest starting here [webmasterworld.com].

Oh I see...

I started sending out emails to the site owners who linked to this site, but it is a daunting task :-)

Results 1 - 10 of about 219

:-)

Maybe I'd better just sit tight until things settle...!

>contact the people who are linking to this site
A lesson to learn here, indeed. Despite popular believe Google is not the officially appointed www authority... :)
Heck, they don't even run the web!
