Mirror Content?

www2 considered Mirror Content By Google?

When on large sites I have noticed the URL change to www2.

For example, if i go to www.example.com -then I click on a link to a subpage - then click on a link to "home" it will take me to www2.example.com - but the same content as the home page. This exists for several pages within the site.

Serveral versions (www2, www3, etc) exist for many pages on the site. Currently I have noticed that they all have pagerank.

My question is if Google will consider www2.example.com Mirror content - and penalize or remove pages? Or, more importantly, if "www2" pages will hurt the regular "www" pages.

One more thing..

In the past when duplicate pages are present, I have seen Google select one of the pages to include into its index, and drop the other from the index all together.

My best guess is that it chooses the page that it first indexed. Anyone else seen anything like this?

Thanks!
