no scroll - text off screen - except on large res?

If you have a splash screen - with some text on it visible at all resolutions - but with some text off screen at the bottom, only visible at higher screen resolutions (like very high) - and a no scroll set - is this actually against the rules?

its not spam - but the new changes soon to be in force make me itchy that it might automatically be seen as such, and penalised...

any thoughts?

Could you justify this to a competitor or to a google manual edit?

Does the additional text benefit the user in any way?

I recently removed some links hidden in this way (even though the links were only to internal pages on the site) because I felt it was fairly obvious if I were to be reviewed manually. I suspect that Google manual reviewers probably have seen examples of more types of deceit and trickery than I could think of in a year.

Of course I may now do a site map that emphasises the pages I want to promote - but that will be visible and so cause no problem.

Of course, it's very unlikely that I will be subject to a manual review so maybe I shouldn't worry.

Is the text designed to be found by search engines and not found by users? If so (and it sounds like it is) then it's spam.
