Navigation - the Google Friendly Way

Frames and borders

Please excuse me if this is a really dull question, but I am new to all of this and have been recommended to this site - looks excellent! To the point: I have been told that frames are a no-no when it comes to being indexed by Google. Does this also go for the inline frames? I have used FrontPage shared borders before - are these better? What would folks recommend for search engine friendly navigation that is shared across the site's pages. Thanks Stew

Welcome to the board, oxford_stew.

Google can handle frames, but they're harder, not as effective and not generally recommended. Some have reported rankings going up dramatically after ditching frames.

An alternative to FP borders for having common navigation across a site is using SSI (server-side includes).
