Most of the news that we hear about G, is why people don't do so well in the SERPs, well i've got another story to tell.

Built a site a couple of years ago, and my original remit was to target certain terms, which i did admirably, unfortunately from scope-ing out here and other places, i learned that remit was a waste of time, and from lots of research realised that, the terms in the remit were the tip of the iceburg.

Hence one term which was left out, which is the top term in my industry (light bulb to a moth), which i've just gone from the bottom of the first page to the top for, though the site was in no way originally designed around the promotion of this keyterm, but a less-important term (still very important term).

Hence some seemingly major reworkings of the site regarding how the site is internally linked, and stripping some of the bloated code out of certain pages (getting pages below 10Kb), have allowed for this all important key-term to be a reality regarding G's serps. Certianly in my industry first three serps or your out of it with a shout on ROI scale.

Moral of the story, keep the internal linking simple, site content managable even to the Moths, that don't know how to search like you and me, and your onto a good basis for getting descent ROI.

Forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean by "remit"?

remit > sort of like proposed defintion to work within

hence a customer give's a remit of what they want to achieve, in most industries, that is exactly what they want/need, etc. but in the internet/seo ROI stakes, usually this is completely underestimated in what terms can actually make money for a company, hence expanding massively upon the remit of what the customer thinks will make them money, as too what will make them money, but staying truthful to the products and services which the customer offers to the potential buyer.

What did you do to keep your internal linking "simple"?

I stripped the linking down to create ever smaller more specialised ventricles within the themes, hence making seemingly compatible area's which are within the themed structure become disassociated, which is bad for someone wishing to move freely accross the ventricules, but excellant for the rank of that page, and its immediate pages in the area of the website, to which it is more truely associated.
