nutsandbolts, didn't you have a site that had a problem last year? If so, is this the same site that's now dropped off? How old is the site?

ok, I am really freaked out. Throughout this so-called update, I've been #1 and #2 for main keywords and maintained that position for last couple of weeks. On www2, www3, and www-sj, was still in those positions yesterday. But as soon as datacenters lined up last night/today, I went from #2 to #170 on one main keyword phrase..oh, and I'm only ranking #170 with an internal page, not even my homepage comes up for the term. So, although everyone is saying that www-sj moved to all datacenters....I keep wondering where these sudden relults came from...they clearly aren't the results I've been sitting at on those 3 datacenters for weeks up until today. Anyone else get hit hard this way today?

Yep. Was crusing at # 14 for important phrase...lasted many days. Then...went up to #11 and that lasted week+...then broke to #10! A Page 1 google ranking for very important phrase.

COOL

On Yahoo it bounced between #'s 14 and 9 throughout the whole fiasco until yesterday.

Now- #151 last I checked. Index page is not in rankings, the Site map that was PR0'd is. :(

That's some cruel Google Tease, man.

You are not alone.

AlphaWolf...that's a little comforting that it's not just me seeing it...is there any chance that your site got indexed in January or Februaury? Because there is another site I linked up with that I follow, and I have watched it this whole update, and just today it went way down in serps from #4, and it was indexed January or February, and so was mine.

AlphaWolf...I have remained #1 and #2 on yahoo and aol...but I wonder how long that will last with these new results...another thing I notice is when my index page does come up for one keyword phrase, it is mysite.com (and ranks really low)...but for another keyword phrase, it ranks #1 for, it comes up as www.mysite.com....and I did a little research and have this weird feeling that google directory for some keywords is not in, yet is in for some keywords. I'm at a loss for any kind of real explanation...I'm so bummed....income is gonna be hit hard just because google seems to be using a February index when it started this...and possibly still is....My mind wobbles (lol) at why a February index would be used to begin with. Clearly, it doesn't take a doctorate degree to know that index is no longer valid.

parabola,

Hate to rain on your parade, but GoogleGuy has already said the update's over and new backlinks will be added next time round.

I hope we can move on with this and just consider this update over finally. I know it's lousy but the writing is on the wall.

I think it's better to point people to the bottom of the following link:

So, it seems- hurry up and wait for a few weeks is the deal.

I got many of my important links through February and March. At the beginning of April I was doing well in the SERPS. Now I am suffering on quite a few important phrases. It looks like any site that has made significant progress during February and March is being affected quite adversely.

Well, this is weird: For my main keywords where I stayed #1, an internal page of mine is also #10. I recently changed servers, and am still on both servers waiting guarantee that google finds me on new server in deepcrawl before removing from old server. Could it be that it's getting some of my site from one server and some from old server and seeing as 2 different sites?

Checked both servers, and google crawled (freshbot presumably--didn't look at log to verify which) new server on May 21, and old server on May 22. This must be confusing the heck out of google. What should I do. I was advised here at webmasterworld to leave it on both servers until it deep crawled new server. But who knows when that will happen with this wacky update. Maybe I should pull from old server now?

WebMistress,

I'm at a loss for any kind of real explanation...I'm so bummed....income is gonna be hit hard just because google seems to be using a February index when it started this...and possibly still is....My mind wobbles (lol) at why a February index would be used to begin with. Clearly, it doesn't take a doctorate degree to know that index is no longer valid.

If you read through all the posts here you'll see others in the same situation.

I'm sure many thousands of people have updated or uploaded new sites during Feb.

Why is google doing it live? Guess we are all beta testers.

Though, a search for current events like 'american idol winner' seemed to pull recent stuff.

At least you know what's going on. Many don't have a clue except that their site took a nose dive- or got bumped up.

Standard reply is to look into other marketing avenues. Overture/AdWords/Affiliates.

Not much comfort if your ROI isn't very good or your starting out on a tight budget...I know.

But- that's the deal. You may want to look at this for ideas:
