Google PR0 penalty for linking to PR0 site.

Does it affect one page or whole site?

Just yesterday I noticed that a competing site has a PR0 on it's link page, though the rest of the site is fine. Link page was PR4 last month.

I think this is because they link TO /exchange links with a PR0 site ( a horrible spam hotel/travel site). This same spammy site offered me a link exchange, but I didn't go for it for 2 reasons..first, it looked terrible, second, I could see the PR0 - and it's not a new site, been around for some years, so I figured it was penalised.

Now, this competing site's link page links to me, and my link's page to their home page. SHOULD I BE WORRIED BY THIS?

I am not linking to the spammy site, but can I be harmed by a chain of links from it? How far does a penalty/"bad neighbourhood" reach?

This competitor of ours has PR0 only on the links page, so is the penalty for linking to a penalised site just restricted to one page?

Don't worry,

The whole Idea of penalty is wrong, recently Google has technical problems and everything will be ok.:)

We had the same issue. We're back now. If we got penalties for inbound links that people could set up without our knowledge then it would be a really nasty place.

Actually, what I'm trying to work out is - will I get any penalty as a result of linking to site B, when site B links to site A, which is a PR0 spamfest.

I link from mysite.com/links to

othersite.com/index

And they link from othersite.com/links to

spammysitePR0.com/index

I don't link to spammysite myself, but can a penalty be passed along a chain? Or am I OK beacuse I don't link to the PR0 penalised page, only to the PR5 index page.

As far as I can see this PR0 is really a penalty and nothing to do with the recent wobbly update.
