Homepage URL / directory description matching issue

Hi.

Our site used to be indexed in Google as [domain.com...] and being in dmoz, the appropriate category/description was listed in the search results.

At some point in time, the site started showing up as [domain.com...] (default home page), with missing category and description. I assume this is because exact match on the directory URL was failing, even though it is the same site/home page. Not sure if this has an effect on ranking as well.

I understand how this can happen, but I'm not sure this is a desired behaviour - perhaps common/default homepage file names should be grouped under the parent URL?

This has nothing to do with the dance/updates.

Hello - welcome to Webmasterworld.

If it's not the case already, are you sure that your .htaccess file is configured to serve up index.php by default - ordinarily it would be index.htm(l) that would be looked for? A search on 'rewrite rule' will clear this up.
