What are the obvious signs that after an update or while the dance, you page is being or was penalize?

Lets make the list comprehensive and probably more on facts ... or should I say high probability. =)

If your site was removed in the Google directory, (still exist in dmoz) does it mean your site was penalized?

Gray or 0 PR, which is which? and others.

At the moment it's hard to tell isn't it? When everything has settled down it might be possible to come up with an answer.

Grey bar has usually indicated the page not being in the index... PR0 more often a penalty, but it was never absolutely fixed.

Perhaps the question is premature.

Woohooo! I've been reporting a site that has been getting a number one position for a ton of keywords, and keyword phrases for a long long time.

I've probably sent in 20 different spam reports over the last few months when I would find another blatant violation.

The site in question has been using hidden text to get #1 positioning. Almost the entire page has been hidden text.

Every single page on their huge network of inter-linked hidden text pages is now a big grey bar.

I would say that this guy has been hit hard by the big Google stick, and I hope he gets a clue and cleans up his act.

I've been working on my competitive site for over 6 months to try and make sure the content would be worthy of the top positions, and it really bugged me that this guy was cheating his way to the top.

Wooohooo!

If any of you out there are using hidden text, you better hope I don't stumble across your sites.

All I have heard is people getting banned, how would get unbanned by google? Is it even possible or are you penalized forever?!

I think you can get back into the index if you:

Step 1: Clean up your act BIG TIME

Step 2: Do a good deed for every day that your site was cheating

Step 3: Wear black from head to toe for a month

Step 4: Send an email to Google and beg for forgiveness

Lol, that'll work. Should I post the pics of me doing that stuff for google to see? J/k, but seriously tho, how do you get back in?

worker's steps 1 & 4 and a prayer.

There's been talk of how long a penalty should last but not a definitive answer from googleguy - I would suspect a 3 month ban minimum with maybe longer for bad spam techniques.

Some say to ditch the domain and start afresh, others have said they managed to get back in with a clean up and re-inclusion request.

If you get penalize by google, does it only affect your PR or even your position in the Search Result?

Is it a sign that you are penalize when your site is not listed on the Google Directory which it list before and still listed in dmoz?
