I had to work on a site, and made "wid-get.html"
The site then made the index and we were all happy that we were getting hits.
Well then the company gets its act together and realizes it should be "widget.html". They also tell me to leave the "wid-get.html" on the server incase anyone comes from a link to "wid-get.html". So I leave it up there and remove ALL links to it, just so it is still there.
Dominic comes to town and the site is working allright and showing in the index. One week passes. Now I have been doing searches for company name, no luck, allinurl:company.com, no luck. The backlinks are still showing, and I was listed in DMOZ.
Well if I go into IE with the toolbar loaded I can navigate the site and am showing some green bars, but as I navigate some of them go grey, others stay green, and it is not consistant.
The thing I am wondering is what exactly is going on, perhaps they were fresh listings and have gone bye bye. Or maybe I picked up a ban for the duplicate content, although it was slightly altered... Other than that I play by the rules and the design is not spammy at all.
Tomorrow I will pull "wid-get.html" and see if that helps.
I did a search and found nothing similar to this...so I am looking for people who were banned to share what they experienced...or if anyone is experiencing anything similar due to Dominic.
I have a site with no duplicate content. Ok there's an old JSP page and newer HTML home page, but nothing remotely the same really over the whole site.
My page seems to have gone out of SERPS for the key phrase, is still found for 3 sub-key-phrases and the PR has increased by one. Go figure.
I took a look at the page which I thought had duplicate content and it is not even close.
One thing that I am wondering is if a co-worker using WPG(web position gold) may have somehow affected us. I have never heard of anything like this caused by it though.
Other than that I am completely baffled.
