PR lost overnight

I've noticed my PR for a lot of pages has dropped completely off to zero overnight. Should I be concerned? What steps should I take to contact Google if this continues?

It's a common theme at the moment, aggie. Don't panic, be patient, with any luck it will get sorted out eventually. It's not just you or something you've done, it's Google's new, wonderful "update".

Check the thousands of msg's in the various threads since sj started changing for more info.

Agree. Don't panic. I have PR0 in many pages now. Sites I check regularly too. You are not alone.

Internal pages of mine went PR0 also. I just came here to check to see if this was common right now..glad to hear it is...well, wish it weren't happening at all, but if it is, I'm glad it can be explained as part of this so-called update. www looks months old again, too.

Hi there,

I have a site which had a pagerank of 6. Over the weekend (05/17/2003) something happened (what i dont know) and the page rank dropped to an unhappy 0.

Last night my site wasnt listed in google, but sites which contained my sites URL were still up there. Last night it showed 1570 links in google, this morning it is showing 800 links in google. To be honest I am a little freaked out about it.

Any thoughs on what it could be?

Rakman,
compare the actual number of links found, rather than what Google says it found. Switch your search preferences to 100 results per page and go all the way to 800. Check your backlinks, then check them on an index that is old likke www-in.google. You should find roughly the same amount of backlinks. With the new math they are actually telling you how many results they have. For some reason the old math reported twice as many as they would show. There probably are some actual missing links too but nowhere near as many as you are worried about.

<added>I only saw 84 backlinks listed. Checking through I only actually found 42. Don't really like the looks of that graybar though:(</added>

There are missing links.

GG has said so much numerous times.

For my site, they are now showing a number of links that do not even match my own internal links, let alone the inbound links with the all important anchor text.

We're just going to have wait it out and let it do whatever it is going to do.

In the mean time, keep working on your site adding content, and getting quality themed links because one thing is for sure and this is there will always be another dance of some sort or another.

lol my pr keep bouncing around between 0 and 4, I was hoping I would get at least a 5 this month, but it looks like google have put a stop to that.

I have one PR5 site dropped to PR0, one site that *should* be about a PR0 stuck on a PR0, but the PR on my other sites is as expected, indeed I even regained a PR6 from a PR5.

The PR0 sites are mostly fairly new, and were included in the last index or just missed it. At the moment they have a small number of quite high PR inbound links, whereas the sites where PR is holding up have a much broader base of inbounds.

A strange thing though.. I have some sites languishing at PR0 (reused expired domains) which are getting reasonable SE results, whereas they weren't on the last index. Bizarre.

The sudden PR0 appearing on some sites is also causing me concern with new linking. There is a good site that wants to run part of an article that appears on my own website, written by me. They were PR5, then poof now PR0... In the past I've been wary of linking with PR0 sites, never outbound and even careful about incoming. Now what? The main page for my site has gone back up to 6 from 5... Do I assume the other site's PR0 is a glitch or that it will stick?

Thanks, Heini. Good compilation. I still have no idea how to handle linking with new PR0 sites... For the use of the article I'm getting an incoming link. I guess that won't hurt me, maybe I'll have them just put the url in text, no hyperlink. Glad to see the dancing monkeys made it into the compilation. :)
