Disallowed links/Number of page links

Do disallowed links count/Should each page link to every other page?

I have two questions.
First of all, if I have 20 links on my index page and 19 of them are disallowed in the robots.txt file, then do I still have 20 links on my index or is the 1 allowed link the only one that counts?

Second, is it preferable to list a link to every page on each page so that all pages link to every other page within a site? Or is it better to just link to a few other relevent pages from each page? I know to include links to my index and site map on every page but I'm debating whether or not to add a link to every doorway page on each doorway page or not.

Thanks!

I do not know a right answer for the ist question but 2nd I would not crosslink every page you will get blacklisted as that is seen as bad ethics by google

Crosslinking in general, or do you mean crosslinking doorway pages? I know that doorway pages are frowned upon if they are used to manipulate and mislead, but I wasn't aware that crosslinking was bad because it makes it easier for the user to navigate the site. Especially for only 20 pages.

Still hoping for an answer to my first question :)

I don't think the disallowing in the robots.txt file would reduce the calculated links on the page for PR transference purposes. I think if you have 20 links, Google will treat them as 20 links, even if some happen to be disallowed. I hasten to add I haven't carefully tested this.

Color me Confused!

Link to site map from EVERY page... really?

And linking to every page on each page is not good?

I have a subweb whose index.html is a site map for the subweb. That OK? It is not a pretty page, but is the best ranking page I have.

I agree and i have not tested this but i believe Vitaplease has and he had mentioned that in another thread. Seems logical.

is it preferable to list a link to every page on each page so that all pages link to every other page within a site?

In your case since you have 20 pages i do not see any problem. It will also help in Uniform PR distribution across your site.

Or is it better to just link to a few other relevent pages from each page?

This is a linking strategy which is generally used for big websites.(No hard and fast rules here).

Hope i answered your questions... ;)

They're all considered, so it's like 20 links off the page, even if some linked to are disallowed, like inside a shopping cart.

>>20 links on my index page and 19 of them are disallowed

That makes for a big reduction in the amount of Page Rank given to that one remaining page that'll be indexed.
