Banned from Google and don't why?

Suddenly two sites are missing from Google

I have two sites which suddenly disappeared from Google. They were on the index for almost a year and now gone and pr's are 0. I never spammed or did anything wrong with these sites. Both sites are on Yahoo and were linked on many government and educational sites. They were both on DMOZ but were strangely removed. Neither have links to bad neighborhoods or anything that would justify the removal.

I need help! Anyone have any ideas?

Happend to my site as well. Been on Google for over 1 year....no changes to my site, don't employ any SEOs...so not trying anything new...weird.

Nothing changed on these sites except new content pages were added and more backlinks were added.

Perhaps you should have done that, as good SEOs don't lose sites, and if they do they know why.

No, there was no reason to be removed from DMOZ. One the only major change was the contact information had changed, but it won't have affected the DMOZ listing. I can't understand why Google would drop them. They are super spam free.

BTW, is Google still doing monthly updates or incremental updates?

I get the same thing.
In your case are the URLs new? If that is the case it could be that they weren't added to the new index.

Sites drop out of the index sometimes, usually they come back on the next update. We've had it happen to one - for no good reason - and it came back the next update. It happened around a year ago when there was a serious case of drop-outs from Google. Lots of people screaming the place down on Google's own forum, first time I saw GoogleGuy appear in fact.
Don't know about Dmoz, but I think they did a whole load of rejigging recently 'coz they moved some of our sites to some really silly cats. Is your site definitely gone or has it been moved?

Probably unrelated, but I've noticed that several of our sites that do have Dmoz entries no longer show them in Google which seems a bit weird.

Hi guys, my url is experiencing the same problem. I have 2 sites. Both of them are indexed perfectly at this very moment on WWW, however, when I put in "mysite.com" on google NOW, I get:

My Site Description etc... Then:

Google can show you the following information for this URL:

Show Google's cache of mysite.com
Find web pages that are similar to mysite.com
Find web pages that link to mysite.com
Find web pages that contain the term "mysite.com"

------------

Now, goto www3, key in "mysite.com", I get this:

Sorry, no information is available for the URL mysite.com

My other site is same problem. The only thing I can tell you to try allanp73 is that put in "WWW.yoururl.com" in the search field, you may see your site (although only 1 page) get listed. Let me know if this is true.

Sounds like the lovely -sj index again...

We've lost a site from -sj (and www2 and 3), but it's still there at every other data centre. Since I don't think there's any reason at all for it to be dropped I'm hopeful it'll be back next time there's a proper update. One thing I have noticed is that site is suddenly showing no backlinks on www, but hasn't affected it's #1 position.

I don't think it is a sj-thing; then why are the sites pr zeroed?

Also, is good still doing one monthly updates or are they running incrementatl updates?

Well, if it's happened suddenly while the -sj update (or not) thing is going on then it might be related. When we lost a site before the PR was greyed out for the month though and then came back the next month at 4 where it was before.

I'm looking at the site we've lost in the -sj index as a blip which will sort itself out onthe next real update. I'm more worried about the site that's dropped to around #300 from #10 for no reason.

Google was updating monthly up 'til this month. Now no one seems to be really sure what's going on. See Update Dominic threads for that stuff too.

Ok... if these two sites are banned, how can I get them unbanned? Is there someone at Google who can hear me out?

First of all........ are the sites removed from DMOZ or Google's Directory?

If it is DMOZ, I'd find out why it was dropped.

Secondly, if it was dropped from DMOZ and Google in the same time period, the only thing I can think of is maybe the site was down for a long period of time and it was removed.

But I'd go to resource-zone.com and ask why your site was removed, it's unusual that a clean site would suddenly be removed for no reason. Being removed from Google can be a fluke, but shouldn't really happen in DMOZ unless you've been naughty :)

Well, allanp, the general consensus tends to opt for one of two strategies.

1. Ditch the url's and start afresh.

2. Fix the problems on the sites that got them banned - like hidden text, link farms, et al and then after x period of time ask for a reinclusion.

How long is 'x'? Now there's a $24,000 question.

I wrote to resource-zone and found out why DMOZ removed them. They said that they were removed because the editor considered they to be lead generator sites. The sites are rich with content, but I feel like the people at DMOZ won't listen.

The sites are definitely banned from Google as well. They didn't have link links, or any spammy stuff. They were cross-linked with a small number of sites serving different areas but all are the same theme and it was logical to cross-link the sites. They were cross-linked only on one page. The other sites in the cross link group were not penalized. I don't think this is the issue, but it could be. I have to have the sites cross-linked for the user and tried to do so without being extreme or spammy.

I just wanted to add that it is not an easy thing to do to just drop the URLs. Hundreds of hours went into building and promoting the sites.

Can I ask when this whole thing happened? Did you got "banned" by google from last update? Or you are speculating according to what u see on www3 (sj)? Cause I don't think cross linking will get u banned.

The sites disappeared today, I think. I checked their rankings on May 6th and they were fine then. I checked the www version of Google (the one which shows 661k links for Yahoo) and the sites were gone. They were also missing from the other datacenters.

Do you have any ideas? Please share :)

p.s. If you search for the URL as term you can see all the sites which linked to the two sites. 200+ sites linking and only 8 cross-links.

Read it it, I am not if this is true, but if it is, then, you may find duplicated contents on google for ur 2 banned sites, and it may caused the drop... I am gonna email sohu to find out more, he seems to be a wise man... :)

I read this other post. Dup content is not an issue. The sites feature unique content (I can explain this more if needed). I have seen dup content problems before. Usually what happens is one site the one with lower pr is dropped.

Maybe for some reason, Google Changed something (I don't want get flamed by using the word - screwedup), they made the filter stronger intensionally or not-intensionally...

One thing for sure allanp73 is that you are not alone on this one for this coming update... I am prepared to see my sites dispear as well, but who knows, they may come back alive for the next update? Good Luck Dude!

So if i write abc.com in google search it will Sorry, no information is available for the URL abc.com

Does this always happens?

what if:
searching abc.com i find the website in GG search
but PR becomes 0/10
then is this also means penalised by google?

allanp ... 1 thing I would recommend doing is going through your stats for the sites in question and seeing the traffic trend ... there are a ton of crazy posts regarding this datacenter or that datacenter and maybe its where you are connecting to that is part of the problem

Out of interest I looked at the problem. The points I would make are

1. The sites do not offer "unique content". If you do a Google search on any number of phrases, then up comes other sites with exactly the same content. That is not a human thing (as DMOZ) and would have been picked up by the Google filters

2. DMOZ gave you a reply as to why your site was removed. Not just one, but several editors lokked at it, and all drew the same conclusion - lack of original content.
Again a fairly standard proceedure is to check for duplicate content. I tried one phrase at random and found that it occured on 49 sites (all with suspiciously similar long hyphenated urls) from Hawaii to Nova Scotia)

3. My advice to anyone with sites that are dodgey and which get banned by DMOZ, Google or anyone else is to keep a low profile. DO not complain publically, as others will dig, and you could well end up with other sites being banned.
In this case what may well have been a complaint about one of your sites being brought to Google's notice, will result in both Google and DMOZ looking at all your sites :(
