Banned sites

Did you get a gray bar recently?

I have noticed that threads about sites being banned seem to be popping up more than usual, and that got me thinking. Is the new algo banning sites?

Some recent opinions (theories) suggest that hidden links are causing sites to be banned. I am curious as to whether there are any other theories about this.

Just to clarify: a banned site is a site that got a gray bar, and is removed from the Google index.

I have recently had 8 sites banned.
They were all in a related niche, but all had unique and different content.
For example, they were about blue, red, white, round, and heavy widgets. All in the same industry, but all different. Some were more similar (blue and azure), but most were very different.

My question is this: Has your site been banned recently, and if so, what are your theories about it?

I have not had a site banned, but I do think google is getting rid of spam sites on this last update. My best guess from looking at serps is that google is cleaning house. Example one of my sites is a PR 3 and the other sites in my area are of higher pr. Now as GG said that some people pay too much attention to pr its true. The key is a good clean site that provides unique information. Most of the sites in my area are all the same.
