Where is all this getting us?

Whats the point of watching different results on all the data centres?

OK people, Ive been following the Dominic update posts now for over a week and my assumption is that unless the results change on www.google.com or www.google.co.uk it has no relevance on traffic, which is ultimately why we are all here.

I've even looked at the results on -sj etc and got a little panicky as there seems to be (in my opinion) some very strange serps. But until these switch over to www (if they even do switch over) why are we all running round like headless chickens.

Maybe we all need to chill out for a bit and wait for the real update. How much time does the average webmasterworld member waste checking serps on irrelevant data centres when they could be putting that time into chasing new backlinks etc?

Just my 2 pence worth.

Well, we have some Google scientists here, who are just interested in how Google works. Following update processes is important to them because it provides them insights, or clues at least, into how it works.

It looks like important changes in the way Google handles indexing and updating could be afoot.

Apart from that: couldn't agree more. Getting hysterical over results on some server not affecting real positions and ranking for two weeks in a row is not an overly effective SEO strategy.

I'll gather heini that your sites aren't buried deep down and unfindable in -sj and -fi that you can write such a thing? While I am not hysterical about how horrible the -sj and -fi SERPs are, I have been praying 5 times daily facing the Googleplex that the inbound anchor text for my main site miraculously appears in the index before it hits www. ;)

Frankly I didn't bother to check more than once or twice. On one occasion all was well, on the other it was weird.
What I do check is logs, traffic, and sales on my own and my client's sites.
Apart from that I got work to do. I get paid to do that.

rfgdxm1,

With all due respect ive been looking at the sj results etc for my own sites and im a little worried, but as yet there is noting to tell us that these results are going to be the results we see on www after the update.

I think that there is a reason a lot of back links are not showing and that the serps in sj or some of the other data centres for that matter are a little strange. If that is a good reason for these results not migrating to www then i dont know what is. Google has built up a solid reputation for supplying excellent results (yes we do get the odd bit of spam now and again). Why would they want to compromise that by updating if they do not feel the results are up to stamdards that they are setting

In one of the Pre update threads GG said something to the effect that watching those results will help you a better understanding. Although i agree that the thread could have been much better.
