A friend of mine has a rather busy, and very large website that is informational mainly. To help me out a bit, he is giving me ad space on 50 pages.

My question is should I just use 1 ad link (eg. The Widget Company - Buy your widgets from me), or should I come up with several different ad links, or does it really matter in terms of google following the link, or if the link will count as a backlink for my site?

As always, thanks in advance for your replies

I would think using a combination would help you decide what ad works the best.

That way you can keep refining it until you find an ad that works.

True in that sense. But my main concern right now is google counting as many of those pages (all PR 5) as backlinks

Whether the link counts as a back-link just depends on whether the link is there and if it's a direct link, which we can probably assume it will be. It has nothing to do with the words used. Where that comes into play is which will get the best responses and the link anchor text used.

You might want to look through Google's hints for writing ads in the Adwords (advertising) section of their site.
