Hi ovtech,

If the site has a PR4+, the search for "link:www.domain.tld" will list the backlinks.

For PR4- , the only way to check for backlinks is by using the advanced search on alltheweb.com - select "must include" "in the link to URL" and enter the domain name.

Thanks Dan.

I noticed that some of the links the list of back links were my site links. Is that good or bad?

Secondly, my pr was 7 a month ago but the last update brought it down to 5. How can I improve my PR?

Is it true, the higher the PR the higher it will rank in the search may be the first page, in first 3 entries?

Thanks

Ovtech,

The link: search reports backlinks from pages with PR4+ (could be less sometimes). This means that all your "internal" pages with PR4+ will be listed as backlinks for your main page - providing they are linking to it of course :)
This means that your internal linking is OK, and should be considered as a "good point".

Ovtech,

I forgot to mention this... The PR is only one part of the ranking algorithm - out of 100 or more.
If it was the only important point, you would find all the PR10 sites showing on top of the SERPs, even if the pages were irrelevant to your search.

Hi Ovtech

PR is one factor in ranking a site, there are many more. If you have pr5 you are well in the game, and could out rank a pr7 site for many keywords. PR is becoming less of a factor, the actual content of your pages is more important. Google wants to give relevant results, so give the spider good content rather than worrying about giving it high pr. By doing this you may get more sites linking to you anyway, and thus more pr, but also the more content you have the more keywords you will be indexed for, which is the most important bit.
