Achieving Pagerank

2nd site or 2nd page better?

A vacation rental company want to promote a 2nd page of their site to the wedding market and a 3rd page of their site to the golf market and they are wondering whether to set up a new domain for each market.

I guess they can only submit one of their sites to the directories (same company) but I am wondering if pagerank transfers more easily to another page of a site or to a 2nd site.

Any advice? I'm sure there are things I haven't thought of.

From the pagerank standpoint the name says it all. Pagerank is transferred the same wether it's on the same or different domain.

There may be compelling reasons to set up separate domains for each segment is each site can stand on it's own. A lot of factors need to be considered. What is the branding strategy of your company? Maybe seperate domains will work better for theming the site and rank better.

I do wonder about this because with my own site inner pages have inherited a pagerank of 4 from the home page which has a pagerank of 5 (the inner pages don't have any other links pointing to them)

I don't think one link from our site to another url would transfer a pagerank of 4.

Any other thoughts?

If it is related to their vacation rental industry then I would say keep it internal.

lot easier to get inbound links to 1 site, than many inbound links to various sites.

and I agree that 1 link from a pr5 would not necessarily make a new site a pr4.

Thanks Shak, that confirms my suspicion!
