Run a search for "of" in the new and old results then compare the displayed ODP descriptions for the top (or any listing).

The old style cuts the description off at the end of the last word before the 106th character and adds and elipsis (well not an elipsis character, but 3 periods anyway).

The new style cuts the description off at 109 characters regardless of word boundries.

Interesting, no?

(or "Interesting? No.")

Thanks Slud, that is interesting. Looks like the www-sj version isn't quite as advanced.

I know that some members have saved search results pages. Does anyone remember if that's how it used to be?

I found some pages from January that were showing the descriptions cut of at the last word boundary before 106th character and adding the "...".

How weird though. It really seems like this update-in-progress slipped into the public (i.e. non Google employee) eye before it was fully baked.

Yeah, this should be called the "not ready for prime time" update.
