My competitor is using the same exact Title I have on two of my sites on two of his sites that target same terms.

He now piggy backs me and it looks ridiculous is serp seeing our duplicate Titles.

I have also noticed that he has scraped text and alteredt it slightly from myself and my competitors. He also uses design layout that are similar.

Is there anything I can do?

Hi,

Im not sure there is much you can do. But if any of the words in your title are your busniess name and is/are not generic words. The you could force him to remove the offedning text, other than that i dont know.

you could dig nice and deep and find if he is guilty of breaching copyright laws. Then sue the pants of em.

Or you could do some research to see if/how much spam this unfriendly fellow is guilty of then file a nice big spam report to G mentioning your nick/googleguy/ww, as menitoned here: [webmasterworld.com...]

Those are your options as i see them, i hope it helps.
Someone else with more credible knowledge may be along shortly with some better ideas, but AFAIK thats about all you can try.

:)

Thanks Mike. This guy has like 20 sites all targeting the same industry. They are all extremely similar and are slowly picking up speed.

Titles can't be copyrighted. Unless your title is a trademark ("Coca-Cola" or "Hires Root Beer" as opposed to "Colas and Root Beers at Warehouse Prices"), you'll just have to grin and bear it.

As for the text and the design, those areas get tricky. Proving copyright infringement is never easy unless the infringer has actually lifted your text or code.

It just depends on how spammy they are and you really got prove the point to get anyone to listen. persevere witht he spam reports is my adice, itll pay off in the end.

best of luck. :)

Title is only one factor to determine ranking. Does anyone think if I copy Yahoo´s title I would take their ranks?

1)Go add more content to your site.
2)After 1, it would be easier to get more relevant back links to you.
3)Repeat 1 and 2, and you will easily beat your competitor, regardless of the page titles.
